I met this little Navajo Grandma at the Lincoln Memorial where I offered to take a photo of her with her daughter. She was excited to hear that I had taught on the Navajo Nation. I was able to use the little bit of Navajo I still remember. Which made her eyes light up. This photo was taken at the nearby Korean War Memorial. I had fun wondering around DC today and I took lots of photos. But this little lady captured the spirit of those who make the pilgrimage to our nation's capital to celebrate freedom. She is a proud American, even though our American government hasn't always done her proud.
The Travels of Erik and Martha
This blog was started 3 years ago to share my adventures with my students. Always the teacher, even when I am on summer vacation. We had a class cow mascot that traveled with me. What grew out of a class project, has turned into a family travel log. Shania, usually doesn't come along any more, but the name remains. In 2009, I started a new challenge. I am now posting a photo a day on my 365 Challenge page. When we travel, I will double post both here and on my 365 Challenge blog. I love to travel. Erik is a great companion on the road. We have great adventures and it is fun to share those adventures with others.
